Academic Platforms & Your Privacy Briefing Documents

Academic Platforms & Your Privacy is a series of briefing documents that describe key privacy considerations related to academic platforms for different campus constituencies. Each briefing is a 2-page document that includes a constituency-specific overview of privacy considerations related to academic platforms as well as key privacy concerns, how each group can take action, and an extensive list of references for each.

In addition to a context setting introduction document, this resource includes briefing documents for the following constituencies: faculty, library workers, students, administrators, campus IT, instructional designers, collective governance bodies, unions, campus procurement, and offices of research.

These resources can be shared directly with these constituencies on your campus, and each is made available under a CC BY license allowing for local adaptation or the use of local branding. Libraries may also consider using these briefings as a starting point for talking points when discussing privacy issues with any of these campus constituencies. A complementary Library Privacy Glossary is also available.

These resources were authored by the Resource Library Working Group of SPARC’s Privacy & Surveillance Community of Practice, co-led by Dorothea Salo and Lisa Levesque and including the following members: Michele Gibney, Pascal Calarco, Brady Beard, Orolando Duffus, Janis McKenzie, Marisol Moreno Ortiz, and Matthew Estill.
