Sam Cheng is the Creative Industries & Copyright Education Librarian at Sheridan College, with extensive experience in faculty collaboration, information literacy instruction, research support, copyright, and open education. A graduate of the SPARC Open Education Leadership Program (2023), Sam has championed OER adoption and critical information literacy across creative and interdisciplinary programs, supporting faculty and students in exploring and sharing diverse perspectives as both information consumers and creators. At Sheridan, she has led initiatives such as the Research Digital Wall, a platform that showcases stories of scholarly, creative, and community partnership projects by faculty and students to the Sheridan and broader communities.

For her capstone project, Sam conducted research and wrote a paper titled Leveraging OER and Open Pedagogy to Promote Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the Classroom.” Her community resource also includes a slide deck that highlights key points from the paper. The purpose of this project was to deepen her knowledge of the topic so she could further develop open education initiatives and resources that resonate with faculty, students, and other stakeholders at Sheridan. Other open education librarians and practitioners may find the resource helpful for generating ideas to advocate for open education at their institutions.
