SamĀ ChengĀ is the Open Education and Copyright Librarian at Sheridan College. In her role, she promotes faculty awareness on the benefits and opportunities of open educational resources (OERs) and works with the library team to help faculty provide cost and barrier free course materials to their students. She also provides copyright education to support the teaching, learning and scholarly activities of the college community. In collaboration with the library team and stakeholders, she is developing an open education hub that will encourage and support faculty in adopting, adapting, creating OERs at Sheridan.

Her research interests include experiential learning opportunities for students working on OER and cross-institutional collaboration on open education initiatives. She is a member of the Ontario Colleges Open Education Working Group and College Libraries Ontario (CLO) OER Committee.

For her capstone project, she plans to develop a series of fun and engaging OER awareness campaigns that highlight stories of Sheridan faculty who have adopted or created OER and include student perspectives on the textbook cost problem and impact of OER on their education.
