Michael L. Porter is currently the Web Services Librarian and liaison to the Business and Computer Science Departments, the Honors College and the eCollege for Distance Education at Lawson State Community College. In this role, he works to integrate the Library resources and services into course management software as well as conducting faculty workshops on emerging technologies and library resource integration into online and hybrid learning environments. His interests include online, mobile and eLearning, OER advocacy, responsive web design, and project management in libraries. He currently serves on the Textbook Selection and Distance Education Committees. He also served as the Co-Chair of the Web Committee for the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), Distance Learning Section. Michael received his Master (MLIS) in Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas, with a concentration in Distributed Librarianship and a Master (MDE) in Distance Education and eLearning from the University of Maryland University College.

Michael’s capstone, Learning OER Anytime (LOERA), focused on developing a series of self-paced, interactive, on-demand, mobile-friendly, elearning modules. LOERA contains learning modules that can be used to provide a flexible, yet structured learning path to understanding Open Education Resources (OER). The course serves to support faculty in developing their knowledge and awareness about OER. By creating the course Michael also hopes to expand the awareness of OER throughout the Alabama Community College System in order to an increase the rate of OER adoption across the state.
