Marisa Petrich is the Instructional Design Librarian at the University of Washington Tacoma, where she contributes to teams supporting Open Educational Resources and Open Access scholarship on campus. Her work includes information literacy instruction, reference services, instructional design consultations, and leading the library’s OER support services. In this role, she develops and leads OER training programs for faculty, manages projects to revise or create OER, and assists with finding and adopting open materials for campus courses. Marisa has a background in journalism and worked in community college libraries before coming to UW Tacoma.
Marisa’s capstone project was to design and test a model for revising and adopting Open Educational Resources for high-enrollment courses on campus. Because required materials for these courses are often selected by groups of faculty working together, there was a need for a collaborative, consensus-based process to develop and implement OER. To support and incentivize these efforts, Marisa sought grant funding to lead a small team of faculty through a quarter-long OER prototyping project.
