Kayla Reed is the Discovery, Systems, and Digital Strategy Librarian at Grinnell College. Managing not only library technology, but Kayla also assists with teaching and instruction, as well as outreach, diversity and inclusion, and future planning for technology developments in the library.
Kayla earned her Master of Library and Information Science from Kent State University in 2017 while working at Missouri Southern State University Library. While there, Kayla started the Open Education Interest Group which grew into an organized committee and saw substantial growth in Open educational resource usage and awareness on campus. As a first-generation college student, Kayla is passionate about open education and equity in education.
For her capstone project, Kayla planned and hosted two events focusing on social justice in OER during Open Education Week 2023. During that week she also launched a new OER consultation service for Grinnell Faculty. In addition, Kayla began looking into the differences between private and public education in relation to OER and how it is perceived, utilized, and discussed at private institutions.
