Julie Reed is the E-Learning Librarian at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is a co-lead of the college’s Open Educational Resources Working Group and is working toward widespread awareness and adoption of OER on all six of Central Piedmont’s campuses. In her previous position as Electronic Resources Librarian at Johnson C. Smith University, she participated in the HBCU OER Affordable Learning Solutions Pilot program as well as an OER faculty review program with Davidson College, Furman University, and Duke University. Results of this last project comprise a chapter of the book OER: A Field Guide for Academic Librarians called “Interinstitutional Collaborations to Forge Intracampus Connections: A Case Study from the Duke Endowment Libraries” published by Pacific University Press. She has recently received her Certificate in OER Librarianship from the Open Textbook Network as a part of its inaugural cohort. Julie’s capstone project will focus on taking the Introduction to Criminal Justice course OER at Central Piedmont by Spring 2021. This will be a precursor to creating Central Piedmont’s first Z-degree in Criminal Justice. She will also develop online and in-person OER training for staff and faculty to be rolled out in the spring and fall of 2020.
