Janice Winkler is a Social Sciences Librarian at the University of Manitoba, supporting Kinesiology and Recreation Management, Women’s and Gender Studies, Linguistics, and Disability Studies. She completed her MLIS at the University of Western Ontario in 2016 and has been with the UM serving as liaison librarian to faculties and departments in social and health sciences ever since. In 2022 she completed a one-year secondment as Open Educational Resources Librarian with the Learning and Instruction team. As part of her role Janice partnered with units on campus and beyond on strategic initiatives to support faculty in engaging with OER.
Janice’s capstone project, Choosing Champions: Starting an OER Adoption Program with “Low Hanging Fruit” Courses, consisted of prioritizing courses for OER supports, curating custom lists of OERs for each course, and creating a message to communicate with instructors to inform them about the open resources which are available to them. While many OER lists are available, this project is unique in its selectiveness and in its focus on Canadian resources. The process she followed, as well as the curated lists, can be found in the Final Report and Community Resource.
