Emily Carlisle-Johnston is a Research and Scholarly Communication Librarian at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. In her role, she provides education and support to students, researchers, and faculty with all things related to Open Access and Open Education. Her current priorities include working in collaboration with teammates within and beyond the library to lead an OER grant program, and to build general awareness and capacity for OER.

Emily has been in her current role since late 2020. She obtained her MLIS from the University of Western Ontario in 2018. Prior to re-joining the school as a librarian, Emily worked on Open Education projects as a Project Lead at eCampusOntario, and as a Scholarly Communications and Research Data Management Librarian at Nipissing University/Canadore College. Her research interests include analysing and identifying publisher openwashing tactics.

For her capstone project, Emily led a team of librarians at Western Libraries to build and launch Western’s inaugural OER Grant and Support Program. The group established the goals and scope of the program, wrote a Call for Proposals, developed application questions, an application form, and an evaluation rubric, and worked with an external evaluation committee to score and award proposals. In the program’s first iteration, 17 applications were received and 5 projects were awarded.
