Christina Hilburger is the Research and Information Literacy Services Librarian at the State University of New York at Fredonia. In addition to reference and instruction, she also assists with campus open education efforts. As a member of the OER Discovery Lab Team, she works with faculty to support the discovery, adoption, evaluation, creation, and use of OER. She also co-chairs the Textbook Affordability Committee.
She earned her Master of Information Studies from McGill University in 2019. Prior to that, she earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. As an open education advocate, Christina is passionate about raising awareness around open education, open pedagogy, and open access.
For her capstone project, Christina established a new open education program at her institution, which she branded Open Fredonia. Her overall goal was to take Fredonia beyond OER adoption to more comprehensive applications of open education, including an expanded incentive program. This process involved a full-scale planning strategy to determine if and how this would be feasible, developing realistic goals and expectations, and outreach efforts. While planning Open Fredonia, she gathered a variety of key considerations, tools, and techniques that were helpful in the program planning process. For her community resource, these resources were curated into a roadmap and program planning toolkit for others who may be going through a similar shift with their own campus open education efforts.
