Val is the Chief Operating Officer leading SPARC’s organizational operations, including financial strategy, business administration, and member services. In her role, Val ensures SPARC provides members with the necessary tools and services to effect change at their institutions.
Prior to her role at SPARC, Val was the Chief Financial Officer for DuraSpace, a non-profit organization that stewards open source repository technologies and enables open access to the world’s intellectual, cultural and scientific heritage. In addition to fiscal strategy and management, she directed the membership program and business operations for DuraSpace. During 12-year tenure at DuraSpace her earlier roles were focused on community building and outreach. She launched and led several community groups, organized user group meetings, and played a key role in developing community project governance and elections. Val’s background also includes 14 years in corporate finance, including at public accounting firms and the insurance industry.
