Stéphanie Gagnon is fully committed to the transformation of scholarly publishing. Working in an institution where an open-access policy has been implemented, she is spearheading initiatives aimed at supporting open access publishing. Under her leadership, a target of 2.5% of the acquisition budget is allocated to financially support OA initiatives, as well as a fund for open-access books.
Over the past few years, she has implemented a comprehensive institutional strategy for analyzing the periodical collection to regain control over subscription costs. The analysis resulted in the unbundling of several big deals and renegotiating all agreements with commercial publishers.
She values involvement in transformative initiatives related to open access. In this regard, she serves on the board of directors of Érudit, on the board of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL), and leads the committee for supporting Québec’s scholarly publications for the Partnership of University Libraries (PBUQ) in their transition to open.
