Andrea Kingston (she/her) is a Social Sciences & STEM Librarian at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. As a liaison librarian, Andrea leads and implements programs and services that support the full lifecycle of research and learning for faculty and students in the Brain & Cognitive Sciences, Linguistics, and Psychology departments. Her responsibilities include collection development, programming, instruction, outreach, and personalized research support for undergraduate and graduate students. Andrea collaborates with colleagues as a member of the library’s Learning Initiatives Department and its OER Working Group. She earned an MLS from the University at Buffalo (SUNY), an MS in Publishing from New York University, and a BA in Asian Studies from the University of California at Berkeley.
For her capstone project, Andrea created A Graduate Student’s Guide to Open Education and Scholarship, an openly licensed (CC BY) resource that provides an introduction to essential concepts such as open licensing, open education, OER, open pedagogy, and open access. Intended primarily for graduate students who plan to pursue careers in academia, the guide offers an early-career intervention in the hopes of encouraging graduate students in all disciplines to adopt open practices as they start to develop their teaching and research practices.
