October 26: World Bank-SPARC Open Access Week Panel
2:00-3:30pm EDT · World Bank Headquarters Open AccessThe World Bank Group and the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) invite you to a panel discussion for International Open Access Week. This year’s theme, “Open in order to…” invites participants to fill in the blank with their own vision of Open Access (OA).
“Open in order to…” also serves as a prompt to move beyond talking about openness itself and to focus on how open access can be used as an enabling strategy — whether for an individual discipline, an institution, or in a specific context; then to take action to realize these benefits.
The World Bank has chosen to celebrate with the theme “Open in order to end extreme poverty” – the World Bank’s mission and rationale behind its OA initiatives. Panelists from a variety of perspectives and organizations will share their thoughts on how OA activities contribute to their work and goals.
We invite you to watch online and join the conversation using #OAweek. We also encourage you to plan your own watch parties and celebrate Open Access Week in your own community! -
