Yasmeen Shorish is a Professor, Director of Scholarly Communications Strategies and Special Advisor to the Dean on Equity Initiatives at James Madison University Libraries. In that role, she provides support for scholarly communications across the organization, including the development of inclusive and equitable practices related to publishing model support. Her research focuses on changes in scholarly communication, data ethics and privacy, and issues related to representation in the field. She believes that moving towards epistemic justice will create more representative and authentic knowledge sharing.

Yasmeen has served on a variety of grant teams, funded by IMLS and the Mellon Foundation, focusing on open-access collective action, collections as data, and responsible AI. She is the Past-Chair of the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Research and Scholarly Environment Committee, where she contributed to the research agenda, Open and Equitable Scholarly Communications: Creating a More Inclusive Future, and she currently serves on the ACRL Board of Directors. She received her MS in LIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Yasmeen will serve as Interim Chair of the Steering Committee from September 23, 2024 through April 2025. Starting May 2025, Yasmeen will assume the role of Vice Chair.
