Dr. Theresa S. Byrd, Dean of the University Library at the University of San Diego, served previously as Chief Information Officer and Director of Libraries at Ohio Wesleyan University and Director of Learning Resources at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Virginia.

Dr. Byrd chaired the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium Board. Her extensive consortial experience includes service as Chair of the Virtual Library of Virginia Steering Committee, the Richmond Academic Library Consortium, and the Ohionet Board. Dr. Byrd served twice on ACRL’s Board of Directors and on numerous ACRL committees and she was elected to OCLC’s Americas Regional Council.

Dr. Byrd participated in the ARL/ACRL Institute for Scholarly Communication at Duke University in 2007 and was instrumental in securing Ohio Wesleyan’s support of the Federal Research Public Access Act of 2009. Copley Library is a founding member of the Library Publishing Coalition, an organization devoted to exploring scholarly communication and defining new publishing solutions. Dr. Byrd initiated the implementation of USD’s institutional repository that promotes the value of open access to data and research and USD’s Digital Initiatives Symposium which addresses scholarly communication to a national audience.

Dr. Byrd is active professionally and has served as a speaker, panelist, and facilitator at professional conferences.
