Shilpa Rele is the Scholarly Communication and Data Curation Librarian at Rowan University Libraries in Glassboro, NJ, and has been in this position since June 2017. In this position, Shilpa is responsible for conducting outreach for the institutional repository; raising awareness about the current issues and challenges relating to scholarly communication; and establishing a campus-wide collaborative data management program.
Prior to this position, Shilpa was the Digital Program Librarian at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, CA (January 2012 – February 2017). In this position, she provided leadership in the strategic development and growth of LMU’s digital collections, institutional repository and digital scholarship. She co-authored the Journal Evaluation Tool (http://digitalcommons.lmu.edu/librarian_pubs/40/), which has been listed by several libraries, both nationally and internationally as a resource on their websites, including on the ACRL Scholarly Communication Toolkit Libguide. Shilpa also worked as the Metadata Librarian at the University of Miami Libraries (April 2009 – December 2011) where she was responsible for developing workflows and best practices for metadata for digital collections.
Shilpa currently serves as a member of the Digital Library Federation (DLF) Advisory Committee (2017 – 2019). She participated in the ALA Emerging Leaders Program in 2010, and in the Minnesota Institute for Early Career Librarians from Underrepresented Communities in 2012. She holds an MLIS from UCLA, MA in Art History from the University of Minnesota, MA in History from University of Mumbai, India, and a BA in History from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, India.
Shilpa’s term on the SPARC Steering Committee expires December 2020.
