SPARC Statement on the Urgency of Addressing Structural Racism and Inequity

SPARC stands in solidarity with those outraged by the killing of George Floyd and with all victims and survivors of systemic violence against Black communities. Black lives matter. The violence produced by structural racism and inequity stands in direct opposition to the core values of SPARC. We must actively and urgently dismantle these deeply rooted systems, both within broader society and the communities in which we operate.

Building equity, including anti-racism, into the foundation of SPARC’s work is an essential, ongoing process that requires constant commitment, education, and reflection. These efforts must be aligned with the leadership of marginalized communities, and SPARC commits to support this leadership with our voices, our actions, and our resources. We recognize that statements of support must be backed by both action and accountability, and we fully commit to doing this work.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue this conversation with the SPARC community as we take concrete steps to continue building equity into the core of our work.
