Karen Williams is Dean of Libraries and Interim Vice President for Information Technology | CIO at the University of Arizona, where librarians have taken a strong lead to bring campus attention to issues of scholarly communication, including open access, author rights, and open educational resources. The UA recently adopted a campus OA Policy. She served as AUL for Research and Learning at the University of Minnesota for nine years, building a scholarly communication program there. Prior to that, she spent 22 years at the University of Arizona Library in a variety of positions, where her passion for copyright and then scholarly communication more broadly was ignited. She is a past president of ACRL and has served on the ACRL Scholarly Communication Committee, the ARL/ACRL Scholarly Communication Institute, and was the original author of the ACRL Scholarly Communication Toolkit, a website introducing campus administrators, faculty and librarians to key issues in this arena.
