Carrie Gits is a Head Librarian, Associate Professor at Austin Community College (ACC), a position she assumed in November 2011. Throughout her twenty years as an academic librarian Carrie served in librarian positions at the University of Illinois-Chicago – Richard J. Daley Library, University of Miami Libraries, and Nova Southeastern University – Alvin Sherman Library.
In her current role at ACC, she leads the Library Services Open Educational Resources (OER) Team. She is actively engaged in college-wide OER work which supports and sustains the OER/Z-Degree pathways. Her responsibilities include providing classroom and librarian faculty training and resources. She authored the OER Libguide for ACC faculty interested in OER. She is the author and facilitator of the college’s online OER professional development for faculty, ACC Learn OER.
In 2017, Carrie served on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Negotiated Rulemaking Committee related to the state’s OER Grant Program. In 2019, she graduated from the SPARC Open Education Leadership Program. She holds an MLS and an MA in Foreign Language & Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a BA from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
